Miscreants flee with rented car

Khuntuni: Four miscreants fled with a car after hiring it on the pretext of a medical emergency. The incident came to light after a complaint was lodged by the car owner with Khuntuni police Sunday.

According to sources, the car owner, Bikash Prasad of Rajgangpur in Sundargarh district, engaged Gangadhar Das as driver of the car. Das said his acquaintance Raja Khan, who hails from the same vicinity, told him that his mother was undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and rented the car August 23 to visit his mother.

On way to SCB, Khan picked up two of his friends. After arriving in Cuttack, Khan asked the driver to go to Kendrapara. From there he called another friend. The trio, along with the driver, reached Cuttack at 2am August 24.

The car was passing through an over-bridge near Khuntuni police station when Khan pushed the driver off the car and fled with it. After the driver narrated the incident to the car owner, the latter lodged the complaint with Khuntuni police.

“A case has been registered and a probe is underway,” said inspector-in-charge Satyabrata Lenka.
