Miscreants loot gold chain from teacher

Bhubaneswar: Two bike-borne miscreants Monday snatched a gold chain worth over Rs 1.5 lakh from a woman at Sai Temple near Ekamra Park area in Nayapalli. The victim’s husband, Saroj Kumar Panda, has lodged a complaint in this regard with the Nayapalli police. Panda, a resident of Kamakhya Nagar in Dhenkanal, has been staying near Biju Patnaik College under Nayapalli police limits.

According to sources, the incident occurred when the victim, Itishri Sethi – a teacher in a private school, was returning home after her duty. The miscreants, who were following her on a black motorcycle from Jayadev Square, suddenly snatched the gold chain weighing more than 50 grams and pushed her to the ground.  She screamed for help but none was present there. Itishri sustained injuries due to the fall and underwent first-aid treatment at a nearby private hospital.

Police have registered a case and started an investigation into the matter based on the victim’s complaint. Police sources claimed that they have identified the culprits from the CCTV footage of a nearby shop.
