Missing man’s body found in Bhitarkanika

Kendrapara: The Talachua Marine police Saturday recovered the decomposed body of a man from Ragadapatia forest block in Bhitarkanika National Park (BNP). The man had been missing since December 29.

The body was found hanging from a tree, said IIC Sukant Kumar Patra of Rajnagar police station and the in-charge of Talachua Marine police station.

The deceased, Ashok Gantayat, 38, was a resident of Ragadapatia. He is survived by his wife and three children.

IIC Patra said Ashok was working as manager at the prawn farm of one Naran Das. A few months ago, Ashok had allegedly swindled some money, and Naran had demanded it back from him.

Police said that after losing his mind, Ashok might have committed suicide after he went missing December 29. The family of the deceased had filed a missing report at the Talachua Marine police station January 11.

Talachua Marine police sent the body for autopsy to Aul community health centre, said Patra.

Ashok’s brother Asiwini Gantayat lodged a written complaint at Talachua Marine police station alleging that his brother had been murdered.

Talachua Marine police registered an unnatural death case. “We are waiting for the post-mortem report and will take action accordingly,” said IIC Patra.
