Missing minor girl returns, exposes trafficking racket

Barbil: Amid allegations of trafficking of women in Barbil area of Keonjhar district, the police arrested a middleman from Bihar Tuesday and produced him in a court.

The accused, Raja Singh, was staying near Gurudwar at Bolani. He had trafficked a minor girl from Bolani to New Delhi. His role in the racket came to the fore when the girl returned home after staying for five years in Delhi. It was learnt that some couples were pushing the racket in Barbil area.

It may be noted that the minor girl’s family had filed a missing complaint at the local police station August 20, 2014. However, the police had failed to crack the case.

When the missing girl reappeared May 12, 2019 at her home, her family was dismayed at her return after so many years.

The police came to know from the girl about the women trafficking racket thriving in the area.

The girl stated that Raja Singh and his wife had lured her on the promise of good wages when her father was not at home. She was first taken to Tata Nagar. Then she was handed over to another middleman named Ashok Yadav in Delhi. She was engaged as a child labourer. But she managed to escape from there with the help of a man from Jammu.
