MLA Pravat Biswal discharged from hospital

Cuttack: BJD’s Choudwar-Cuttack MLA Pravat Biswal, who was arrested by CBI in connection with the Seashore Group chit fund scam and later granted bail, has been discharged from the SCB Medical College and Hospital here Saturday. He had been undergoing treatment here for the past nine months.

He will be sent to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, for better treatment, sources said.

Two days ago, the Orissa High Court had granted permission to the legislator to travel outside the state for treatment.

He was granted bail against a cash security of Rs 20 lakh and two securities of Rs 5 lakh each. The conditions remained the same as laid down by the court while granting him interim bail for two months April 24. The court has asked him not to destroy any evidence pertaining to the case and cooperate with the investigating officials.

Biswal was arrested by the CBI September 19 last year from his Mahanadi Vihar residence in Cuttack.

His health condition deteriorated September 25.  A team of doctors treating him at the Capital Hospital recommended his shifting to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Since then he had been undergoing treatment there and had undergone surgeries due to infection in his spinal cord and stomach.

The MLA was under scanner over a deal between his wife Laxmi Bilasini Biswal and Seashore Group CMD Prashant Dash over a piece of land measuring 34 gunths at Benapur mouza in Jajpur district.
