Mob lynches youth after road mishap

Bhubaneswar: A youth was lynched by a mob over a petty incident on the outskirts of city late Sunday evening.
The deceased, identified as Jyoti Prakash Baliarsingh, 25, was a resident of Dumduma under the Khandagiri police limits. He worked as a bouncer in Club39, a restaurant and night club at Jagamara.
According to sources, Jyoti along with his two friends, Chiku and Chintu, were returning home on a motorcycle after attending a wedding. Another youth, who is a resident of Bahadalpur area under the Airfield police station, was coming with his mother from the opposite direction on a motorcycle. Near Canal Bandha area at Pokhariput, the motorcycles brushed against each other.
An altercation ensued during which an inebriated Jyoti and his friends pushed over the motorcycle carrying the mother and son duo.
The lady fell off the bike and sustained injuries in her waist.
Hearing the lady’s cry, local residents rushed to the spot and started beating up the trio with bamboo sticks. The woman’s son also called up his friends who arrived almost immediately as the place was near Bahadalpur village. Jyoti’s friends managed to escape.
After a few hours, some passersby noticed him lying senseless on the road. They informed a PCR van that rushed him to the Capital hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. “No wound marks were found on Jyoti’s body and the reason behind his death can only be ascertained after the post-mortem which will be conducted Monday,” informed Himansu Swain, the Inspector in-charge of Khandagiri police station who was present at the Hospital.
The woman and her son were detained by the Airfield police station. The family of Jyoti has also filed a complaint of murder with the Airfield police.
