Money lender who was hacked by borrower’s son over Rs 1,000 succumbs in Nayagarh

Nayagarh: A local money lender who was hacked by the borrower’s son over a sum of Rs 1,000 at Gadadharprasad village under Itamati police limits in Nayagarh district died while undergoing treatment at the Nayagarh DHH Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Muduli and the accused as Laxmidhar Rout.

According to police, Ramesh had lent Rs 20,000 to Gola Rout as hand loan. As per the verbal agreement between them, Gola returned Rs 19,000 Friday. But Ramesh demanded the remaining Rs 1,000 towards interest. It was when Gola refused to pay the amount, a verbal duel ensued between them. Later, Ramesh’s son joined his father and assaulted Gola.

After coming to know about this, Gola’s son Laxmidhar went to Ramesh’s house, called him out and hacked him with a sharp weapon.

Ramesh was immediately rushed to Nayagarh district headquarters hospital. Few hours later, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Registering a case on the basis of the report filed by the deceased’s family members, Itamati police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for Laxmidhar who has since been absconding.
