Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here has issued thunderstorm and heavy rainfall warning to 11 districts. Some parts of Puri, Ganjam, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Gajapati and Koraput are likely to experience heavy rainfall, an IMD bulletin said Friday.
The department also said that the southwest monsoon will arrive in the state Friday. With the arrival of the monsoon will increase in Odisha, particularly the coastal districts, and continue for three days as a low pressure area has been created over northeast Bay of Bengal. It is likely to intensify and hence Friday evening onwards, rainfall will increase in coastal and interior districts.
The IMD has predicted that the weather condition will remain consistent. Rainfall is likely to decrease June 24 onwards. However, parts of the state will again experience heavy rainfall June 28 onwards.
The state has been getting pre-monsoon rain for last two days, giving people a respite from intense heat and sultry weather conditions.
IMD sources said, Keonjhar received 22 millimetres of rainfall in the last 48 hours. Puri, Jharsuguda, Malkangiri, Paradip, Gopalpur, Balasore, Bolangir, Chandbali and Baripada recorded 30, 14, 11, 10.6, 10, 6.2, 3.4, 3 and one milllimetres of rainfall respectively during the period.
However, the temperature remained above 40 degree Celsius in western parts of the state. Sambalpur recorded a maximum of 41.3 degree Celsius, followed by Hirakud 41.2 degree Celsius, Titlagarh 40 degree, Malkangiri 40 degree and Sonepur recorded 40 degree Celsius. The IMD centre issued heavy rainfall alert for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur, Bolangir and Nabarangpur districts.
