Cuttack: The district administration and commissionerate police (CP) have decided to install more number of close circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the Baliyatra ground during the upcoming Baliyatra scheduled to be organised between November 25 and December 1.
A decision in this regard was taken at a preparatory meeting chaired by collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra Tuesday. The administration had installed CCTVs at one section of the ground during last year’s Baliyatra. However, the cameras will be installed across the ground this year, said the meeting.
District administration sources said a committee has been formed to look into installation of giant merry-go-rounds by private parties on the fair ground. “A panel comprising officials of electricity, public works and fire services departments will visit the Baliyatra ground and submit a report to the district administration on the safety aspects of the giant wheels,” Mishra said.
According to sources, the district administration has prohibited the use of gutkha and polythene bags in the mega fair. “A special squad will be formed for strict execution of the prohibition order. Besides, the administration will take assistance from NCC cadets and Scouts and Guides in this regard,” an official of the district administration said.
Sources said the district administration and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) have decided to charge Rs 22 per sq ft while allocating space to stall owners. “Steps are being taken to ensure proper night illumination and provision of safe drinking water at the fair. All the stalls of this year’s Baliyatra will be insured for Rs 4.5 crore,” Mishra said.
CMC commissioner Gyana Das said the civic body will put bins near the stalls for disposal of garbage and charge a cess for the facility.
