More cobras rescued

Bhandaripokhari/Udala/Kujang: A few days after over 150 cobras were rescued from a house in Dhamnagar in Bhadrak, twenty-two cobra hatchlings were rescued and 50 eggs found from various parts of Bhandaripokahri block in Bhadrak Friday.

Similarly, nine cobra hatchlings were rescued from a house at Nuapada Thursday evening while eight cobra hatchlings, a grown up cobra and 50 eggs were found in the house of Dasarathi Jena at Nami village. Four cobra hatchlings were rescued from Ola village in Tesinga panchayat.

On the other hand, 11 cobra hatchlings were found from the shop of a person at Radho Chhak of Udala in Mayurbhanj district Friday.  Reports said, Krupasindhu Rout was lifting potato sacks in his shop Thursday night when he found a cobra hatchling. He drove it away and closed his shop.  Friday morning, he found two heads of cobra hatchlings popping out from a hole. He sought the help of local snake-helpline, whose activists rescued 11 small cobras.

Moreover, panic gripped people of Paika Sahi in Mangarajpur village under Kujanga block in Jagatsinghpur district Friday after seven snake hatchlings were spotted in a house.

According to sources, family members of Sindhu Rout spotted a baby snake in the house and began digging to trace the rest.

Of the seven, three were alive. The species of the snake is yet to be ascertained.

Likewise, three cobras were rescued from a puja room (Bhagabat Gadi) in Kalianti village of Mahanga block in Cuttack district on the same day. Suspecting more snakes, the villagers had sought help of snake helpline.
