Bhubaneswar:  A day after Odia actress Varsha Priyadarshini levelled allegations of domestic violence against her husband BJD MP Anubhav Mohanty, the latter filed a divorce petition at Delhi’s Patiala Court, Sunday.

In his 47 page petition the MP said that he himself wants to get a divorce on grounds that his wife has not allowed him to have physical relations with her after six years of their marriage though she does not suffer from any physical disability.

As a result of which Anubhav had been suffering from mental cruelty as his wife denied him a physical relationship despite living under the same roof, read the petition.

The petition also states that his marriage was solemnized February 8, 2014 in Cuttack.  After their marriage Varsha said ‘no’ to consummate the marriage and sought three to four months time to get into a physical relationship with him.

The MP, however, said that he respected his wife’s decision.

He further said that when Varsha was staying with him in Delhi after he was elected for Rajyasabha MP, she again sought seven to eight months time to get into physical relations. Starting from their wedding day, Varsha has not allowed a natural conjugal life, Anubhav alleged.

Anubhav claimed that he and his family members were subjected to mental cruelty by his wife due to her refusal to live with his family. In his petition he mentioned that Varsha didn’t like his family’s standard of living for which she has been staying with her parents for the last one year.

“Varsha always threatened to file a false case against me at the police station. She also suspected that I have been in physical relationship with other actresses,” alleged Anubhav.

Anubhav also said that he and Varsha have been staying separately from May 1, 2019.

Notably, Varsha filed a case under Section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act against the MP for allegedly assaulting and harassing her.

Instead of lodging any complaint with the police, Varsha has approached the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court here in a criminal miscellaneous case against Anubhav under section 12 of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, apparently considering her actor-turned politician husband’s close proximity with the power corridor.
