Orissa Ranji cricket team captain Govind Poddar, who is settled in Bhubaneswar, loves to visit his hometown Rourkela and spends quality time with his family. “Weekend means family time, even for busy cricketers. I rush to Rourkela to be with my family Saturday and Sunday. It makes me and others happy,” he avers.

With Pals
“Sunday becomes rejuvenating when you get time out for your best pals. Thus, I make sure to have a gala time with friends. Not only do we just hangout, we explore new places and dine out together”, says the skipper.

With puppies
Govind loves nothing more than spending a lazy day cuddling with his puppies Dicky and Ticky. “You don’t need other company when you’ve such fluffy and adorable pets. I always look forward to Sunday mornings when I hangout with my puppies and enjoy the day to the fullest. My pets are part of my family. I feel it’s important for all of us to take care of them. Care for animals makes all of us human,” says Govind.

Papa’s assistant
The skipper and his father share a friendly bond and love to rustle up dishes for Sunday lunch. “The most interesting thing about Sunday is it’s a rest day for ladies in my family. My dad dons the role of chef and I help him cook some mouthwatering non-veg dishes for our family. We eat our lunch together and the sense of togetherness is really awesome’’, maintains Govind.

Play time
Just because it’s Sunday, Govind does not say no to cricket. “As cricket is my passion, I ensure to do practice with kids and share my experience with them Sunday morning. We have a team named Rourkela Youth Cricket Club and I love to spend time with my fellow cricketers,” he says.
