Berhampur: The bodies of two men were found in a pond at the Biju Patnaik park under Berhampur Town police limits Tuesday morning. The two deceased have been identified as K Janardan Rao (65) and K Ranga Rao (62), both residents of Rajamma Sahi area under Badabazar police limits in Ganjam district. Police said that they were related as brothers.

On being informed, personnel from the Town police station reached the spot and recovered the two bodies, and sent those for post-mortem. Mystery shrouds the death of the two brothers as they do not have any injury marks on their bodies.

Security guards of the park told the police that they have no idea as to how the two entered the park and got drowned in the pond. Police are now examining the CCTV footage of the cameras installed inside the park to ascertain the cause of death of the two persons. Also, the police did not find any entry ticket on the bodies of the deceased. So the question remains as to how they entered the park.

Sources, however, pointed out that the two brothers may have consumed liquor inside the park. They said that the two slipped into the pond, which does not have a boundary wall, in an inebriated condition. Police said only the post-mortem report will reveal whether the two deceased had consumed alcohol. Police after registering two cases of unnatural deaths (Nos 16/23 and 17/23) have handed over the bodies to their family members for cremation.
