Mystery shrouds schoolgirl’s death

Nayagarh/Gania: A tribal schoolgirl died under mysterious circumstances at the district headquarters hospital in Nayagarh.
Locals alleged that she died after undergoing an abortion. They raised doubts on her death as she vomited profusely and experienced severe dizziness before her death. Police registered a case of unnatural death on their own as her mother did not lodge a complaint.
The girl hailing from Daspalla was studying in Class-X at a government residential school in Gania. She experienced dizziness Wednesday following which hostel authorities informed her uncle who was living nearby.
Relatives took the girl home and kept her under care through the night, but her condition failed to improve. The relatives then rushed her to Gania community health centre Thursday morning. After examining her condition, doctors referred the case to the district headquarters hospital.
By the time the girl was taken to the district headquarters hospital she had already slipped into coma. She died at the hospital after sometime.
On being informed by the girl’s uncle, her mother visited the school and later the hospital.
Additional district medical officer (ADMO) Dr Sweta Kumar Mohapatra the girl when admitted had slipped into coma. Later, she died. The ADMO refused to comment on the issue till the post-mortem report was available.
Gania police station officer-in-charge Deepak Khandayatray said it would be premature to speak on the issue before the post-mortem report is available.
