New Delhi: Union Health Minister J P Nadda Tuesday said all the newly established AIIMS including the one at Bhubaneswar will match the virtues of the premier All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi and will not be a lookalike of the premier organisation.
He said, “The government is committed to ensure that the new AIIMS provides the same standard of service as those of AIIMS-New Delhi. No effort will be spared to make them the very best. New institutes will be ‘AIIMS’ and not ‘AIIMS-like’.”
“Innovation for cost-effective and affordable healthcare is the need of the hour. To take up these challenges, AIIMS needs strengthening and expansion of its facilities which we are committed to provide,” Nadda added.
The announcement comes at a time when the ministry is undertaking expansion of AIIMS in the country in a phased manner. It has already established the premier hospital in Bhubaneswar, Raipur, Patna, Rishikesh, Jodhpur and Bhopal.
Although most of the new AIIMS are getting grants for development of infrastructure, most of them are grappling with staff crunch. The ministry has recently admitted in the Lok Sabha that there was dearth of doctors and staff in all the newly established AIIMS.
