Barang: At least three visitors to Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) here were injured, one of them critically, after a bus carrying visitors from a safari knocked them near giraffe enclosure Wednesday afternoon.
The critically injured Amiya Ranjan Darimal is undergoing treatment at the ICU of a private hospital here. The other two- Gyana Ranjan Mangaraj and Surya Prasad Mangaraj- were discharged after being given the first-aid.
The trio, residents of Mahura village, was walking near the giraffe enclosure when the bus (OD-02-U-7607) carrying visitors from a safari hit them. They were flung several metres and sustained injuries.
Zoo authorities rushed the profusely bleeding trio to a private hospital in the city.
The bus driver fled the scene leaving behind the bus and visitors at the spot. Zoo authorities rushed to the spot and arranged for the visitors’ return to the safari bus stop.
NZP director Sisir Kumar Acharya with other zoo officials enquired about the patients’ condition at the hospital.
“The contractor responsible for the safari will bear the treatment-related expenses of the trio as mentioned in terms and conditions during the privatisation,” NZP deputy director Jayant Kumar Das said.
