Narrow victory for Odisha Police

Cuttack: Odisha Police rode on an own goal and a first half strike from Pramod Kumar Das to come from a goal deficit and scrape past Rising Student Club 2-1 in a match of FAO 1st Division football league here Friday at the Barabati Stadium.

It was an exciting counter as Rising Student went 1-0 up through a brilliant Sk Farid strike in just the 24th second of the match. Down by a goal, Odisha Police pressed hard and made repeated forays in the opposition box in search of an equaliser.

They were rewarded when Nabin Suna of Rising Student scored an own goal to hand Odisha Police the equaliser on 32 minutes. Pramod netted the winner for Odisha Police two minutes later.

In the other match of the day, Anil Sindur and Sanjit Khara scored a goal each in each half as Rising Star Club defeated Radhagobinda Club 2-0 comfortably. Anil put Rising Star ahead in the 43rd minute before Sanjit netted the second 10 minutes from final whistle.

Subhayan bags bronze

Subhayan Banik of Jharsuguda clinched a bronze medal in the 63.5kg category of the National Senior Kick-boxing Championships in Goa. Another Jharsuguda man, Naveen Singh, was participated in the meet as a referee.
