National handloom expo displays mastery of state weavers

 

BHUBANESWAR: The National Handloom Expo 2019, which was inaugurated at IDCO Exhibition Ground, Unit-III, Bhubaneswar, March 01, is witnessing increasing footfalls with each passing day.

 

This is the 16th National handloom expo organised by Odisha State Handloom Weavers Co-op Society Ltd (Boyanika), the only apex society of the state for marketing of hand ovens for facilitating sustainable livelihood to the weavers of the different parts of the country by providing a common platform for marketing their handloom products.

 

The expo has around 90 stalls where 16 states were participating including Odisha. Boynika has one counter in the expo. 30 stalls were by Odisha weavers while 60 stalls were by weavers from different states.

 

Snehangini Chhuria, Minister, Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts, Odisha, inagaurated this mega event on 01.03.2019 at 6.30 P.M in presence of Ashok Chandra Panda, Minister Tourism, Odia Language, Literature & Culture, Odisha, Prasanna Kumar Pattasani, Member of Parliament, Bhubaneswar, Priyadarshi Mishra, M.L.A, Bhubaneswar (North), Bijaya Kumar Mohanty, M.L.A, Bhubaneswar (Central), Shubha Sarma, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts, Govt. of Odisha, Susanta Kumar Barik, OAS(SS), Director of Textiles & Handloom, Odisha, Sesha Kumar Meher, President, Boyanika and Bikash Chandra Mohapatra, OAS (SAG), Managing Director, Boyanika.

 

The art of handloom weaving is highly evolved and its fabrics bear testimony to the artistic ability and tradition of weavers of the state as well as whole country. National Handloom Expo is organised with an aim to avail opportunity to sell the different handloom products of the country. It will also enable our state weavers to interact & exchange their skills and techniques involved, cost effectiveness, study the colour and design patterns prevailing in contemporary markets in different states.

This expo is sponsored by Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India. Leading PWCS of our state, leading handloom organisations i.e. Apex & Corporations and major handloom clusters from different states of the country are participating in this expo.

 

Around 100 participants from different states like Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajsthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Tamilnadu, Karnatak, Uttarakhand, Haryana & Odisha have participated in this expo.

Steps have been taken for participation of more states. The expo will remain open from 2.00 P.M to 9.30 P.M daily. All ranges of handwovens of our country are available in this fair for our esteemed customers.

Boyanika is working as the implementing agency and committed for all round socio economic development of the weavers of the state. This organisation is implementing various developmental programmes for the welfare of weavers of the state.

Boyanika has been exploring every new horizon of marketing, for which the active co-operation of all media persons is highly solicited. The media intervention will certainly make this event a successful one like previous year.
