National handloom expo in Bhubaneswar sees Rs 15 crore revenue

 

Bhubaneswar: The organisers are expecting revenue of Rs 15 crore from the National Handloom Expo 2018, being held at the IDCO Exhibition Ground here. The expo had garnered revenue of Rs 12 crore last year.

“We are hopeful to do business to the tune of `15 crore from this expo when compared with revenue of Rs  12 crore last year.

The target can be achieved due to the good climate now as well as considering that the examinations are scheduled to be held later,” a top official of Boyanika told Orissa POST. The official said the expo has witnessed huge footfalls due to the Adivasi Mela, which was held for the first time at IDCO ground. The expo has registered revenue of Rs 7 crore till February 4.

As many as 200 stalls have been put by participants from 22 states including Odisha. A wide variety of sarees, dress materials, jumpsuits, trousers, palazzos, crinoline skirts, quilted tops, jackets, boleros, stoles, crop tops for various occasions for women and pants, trousers and shirts for men have been a huge hit in the fair. 

The exhibition is organised by the Odisha State Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society Ltd  (Boyanika) and sponsored by Development Commissioner for Handloom, Government of India. Boyanika, which garnered revenue of Rs 1.55 crore from the last expo, is hopeful to record revenue of Rs 2 crore from this edition of expo, the official said.

“Sarees and dress materials are the major attractions for denizens this time. There is a good growth in footfalls,” the official added.

Digital transactions have also witnessed an increase during the expo. Around 60 per cent of transactions were done digitally, the official said. (PNN)
