Bhubaneswar: The Indian Navy will train marine police personnel of Orissa at INS Chilika to upgrade their skills and capabilities.
Home Department officials have informed newsmen Wednesday that the crucial training will start in July. According to sources, the training will be part of a government exercise to strengthen coastal security. The state government, in order to strengthen its marine security, has set up 18 marine police stations. Besides, a comprehensive coastal security excise involving various security agencies such as Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Ports, Maritime Police and other concerned stakeholders is organised every two years. The state has a 480-km stretch of coastline which is considered to be most vulnerable in the state in terms of maritime security.
The CAG report in 2016 had also pointed out at the poor functioning of the marine police stations in the state.
