Nayagarh village road laying work under MGNREGS billed 21 times

Nayagarh: Acting on allegations over irregularities in a village road laying work under Bhapur block in Nayagarh district that has been billed 21 times, the district Collector Poma Tudu had recently ordered for a detailed probe which will be carried out Monday.

The road laying work was carried out earlier under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

According to a source, the stretch of 850 metre-long road laying work at Gopalprasad village of Badasara panchayat in the district was renamed several times during the last three fiscal years. It was billed accordingly and over Rs 1,00,00,000 has been embezzled.

A three-member team comprising of project director DRDA Nayagarh is to conduct an official probe in this regard. Based on the report of the inquiry committee, stringent legal actions will be taken against the wrongdoers, the project director Subash Chandra Ray said.

In the FY 2018-19 the village road laying work was billed six times, in the FY 2019-20 nine times and in the FY 2020-21 six times, a local social activist of Baigunia village Nabakishore Barad stated.
