Bhubaneswar: Having to deal with the political hot potato he himself created, Union tribal affairs minister and senior BJP leader Jual Oram said Sunday that his words and contention on the CBI probe into scams in Orissa should not be misconstrued.
Accusing Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Prasad Harichandan of trying to draw political mileage out of his statement, Oram said: “The contention in my statement was that BJD should thank BJP because it did not use CBI the way Congress had used it for political gains. Had BJP misused CBI the way the Congress-led UPA had done, there is no doubt CBI would have finished the BJD government already”.
“Even though a section of people are under the impression that the CBI probe into the chit fund and mining scams has slowed down, the NDA government has never interfered into CBI’s activities. I never questioned the integrity of CBI. I have stated that CBI is an independent organisation and it is probing the scams without any pressure or influence,” added Oram.
Dubbing the Congress leaders allegations as “false, politically motivated and based on distorted facts,” the lone BJP MP from Orissa said it seems the Congress leaders “have not carefully examined” what he had said and the clarification he issued later.
