New exit line at BPIA for VIPs, officials

Bhubaneswar: Authorities have opened a third exit line Monday at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) to enable hassle-free exits for VIPs and government officials.

The passengers who land at the airport were coming out via two exit lines. Due to security checking government officials and VIPs also had to queue up in these lines. Now the airport authorities have added one more line to enable speedy exits for VIPs and government officials.

Sources said that in the new line government vehicles, emergency vans, vehicles carrying airport staff and other exempted vehicles would be allowed.

Expert panel to tackle pigeons

The airport authorities have started shooing away pigeons from Terminal-1 of the airport since Sunday.

According to sources, a technical committee was formed to catch these birds in the terminal. Acting on the suggestions of the technical committee, a three-member team led by honorary wildlife caretaker, Subhendu Mallick, zoologist Sibaprasad Parida and Biswajit Jena, assistant professor at veterinary college, visited the spot.

The team would catch the birds by placing food near the ATM kiosk. After catching the pigeons they would be sent to OUAT for treatment. If the birds are found well they will be set free outside the city, sources added.

Similarly, a net was placed to check the pigeons entering the operation area. The birds are also entering the airport compound through the entry and exit gates of the terminal.

Passengers would be asked not to give food to these birds at the terminal, said Parida.
