Barang: Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) authorities have upgraded infrastructure to attract more picnickers during the upcoming Christmas and New Year.
Forest and environment department secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra recently inaugurated three special picnic altars at the botanical garden to cater to the tourists’ needs. Earlier the zoo had 66 open altars for picnickers.
NZP officials said all the three special altars have roofs and arrangements for cooking and dining. Besides, they also have urinals and water supply facilities. “Each altar has been constructed on 225 square foot land at an expenditure of `2.4 lakh. Picnickers can book these altars at `1,600 each. Steps are being taken to complete the construction of seven more special altars at the earliest,” said a zoo official.
NZP authorities had inaugurated at least eight picnic sheds at the botanical garden a few days ago to attract tourists. The rate of booking the sheds is between `1,300 and `3,100 depending upon the size and facilities available. “The garden has 66 open altars for picnic purpose. We are now charging `250 each for 12 small altars and `550 each for the 54 big ones,” said the official.
The zoo authorities recently fixed prices for allowing shooting of films, serials and albums at the garden. “We will charge `25,000 for allowing film shooting at the garden while television serial makers will be asked to pay `15,000. Album producers can shoot in the garden by paying `10,000,” said the official.
NZP authorities have also decided to collect `30 as parking fee for two-wheelers and three-wheelers while buses will be asked to pay `200 each.
