New, modern library in VIMSAR soon

Sambalpur: The long-pending dream of a modern library for students of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla is finally turning into a reality. The Public Works department (PWD) has already initiated the construction of a library-cumcanteen at the institution. The complex is being developed over 4,000 square feet on the premises of VIMSAR. It will be G+5 structure and the estimated cost of the project is Rs 16.44 crore. Official sources said the sitting capacity of the proposed library will be 350 persons. Other facilities available in the building will be a 250-cover canteen, lift and parking space. “The construction is going on at full pace. Work up to the plinth level has been completed. A target has been set to complete the work within nine months,” PWD sub-divisional officer, Jagannath Bhujabala said.

Currently, the Central Library of VIMSAR operates from a two storey building and it does not have adequate space.

As a result the students of the premier educational institution often face problems. The sitting capacity of the library in VIMSAR, which has 1,000 UG students, 350 PG students, and 150 house surgeons, is around 150. “Apart from the students, many doctors, who are preparing for super specialization and those involved in research work will benefit once the new library starts functioning,” said an official. All the latest national and international journals will be available for them,” he added.
