Newborn baby dies, locals gherao Tata Steel hospital

Joda: Tension ran high at Tata Steel Hospital following the death of a newborn baby here in Keonjhar district Saturday.

Hundreds of people from Hanuman hatting under ward number-10 locked the hospital gate and staged a demonstration in front of the hospital alleging negligence from doctors.

The demonstration continued till the intervention of the police who promised action after an investigation.

According to reports, Ganeswar Mohanta of Hanuman hating admitted his wife to the hospital June 28 and she delivered a baby boy at 10 pm.

Both were discharged Friday and they went back home.

However, the health condition of the baby deteriorated following which he died Saturday.

Alleging the hospital authority of negligence, local residents led by councillor Suresh Barik gheraoed the hospital at 11 am and locked the main gate. The protestors alleged that a nurse had misbehaved with Ganeswar’s wife and when she objected to it, they were asked to leave the hospital, leading to the baby’s death.

The family members registered a case with the Joda police.
