Kamakhyanagar, Feb 1: In yet another incident of dowry torture, in-laws of a newly-married woman at Raibola village under the police station in Dhenkanal district forced her to drink poison and then threw her in a nearby jungle Saturday.
However, the victim identified as Ranita Sahu had a close shave as her family members, on being informed by some locals, rescued her from the jungle and rushed her to a local hospital in a critical condition. Police registered a case under Sections 498 (A), 323, 307, 341, 34 and 4 of the Dowry Prevention Act after Ranita’s father Ratnakar Pradhan lodged a complaint with the police.
The complaint said Ranita, belonging to Kandhara village under Kankadahad police station, had married Bhimasen Sahu, son of Duryodhan Sahu of Raibol village June 26, 2014. After a few days of marriage, Ranita’s in-laws started
demanding more dowry from Ranita’s family. As Ranita
expressed inability of her parents to arrange for more dowry, her in-laws forced her to drink poison and threw her in a
forest in a bid to kill her.
