Bargarh, Jan 5: Preparation of ration cards under National Food Security Act (NFSA) is said to be in a total shambles here after many of the recipients under Antyodaya Anna Yojana were found to be excluded from the list of beneficiaries.
This has highlighted serious ills plaguing the implementation of the scheme in Bargarh district after several beneficiaries under Turunga panchayat of Bargarh block met the district collector in his office and lodged a complaint with him requesting to take necessary steps in this connection. They alleged they have been left in the lurch after their names did not figure in the scheme.
Many of the actual beneficiaries under Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Rs 2 kg a rice scheme have not been included in the list while many well-to-do persons have managed to get a card in their name or of their spouses. As a result, the actual beneficiaries have been deprived of getting rice as part of their earlier scheme and are living a life of hardship without receiving their quota of rice.
In this panchayat, each beneficiary has a tale to tell that paints a picture of a complete mess prevailing in the implementation of the National Food Security Act here.
Locals Sita Bhue, Sudeshna Tandi and Sunamati Nag said earlier they were beneficiaries under AAY scheme and used to receive 35 kg rice per month free of cost. However, ever since NFSA was implemented, they have been debarred from receiving rice from the panchayat office and are yet to receive ration cards. Murali Tandi who earlier used to receive 35 kg rice is now getting only five kg rice per month.
BPL beneficiaries Mithila Bhoi, Jamuna Bhoi and Malati Bhue earlier used to get 25 kg rice at Rs 2 per month but now are deprived of getting the same after the NFSA came into force, they alleged. The authorities instead of enlisting their names in the ration card list under NFSA have altogether stopped providing rice under the earlier scheme, they claimed.
Even landless people like Teja Bhue, Bijaya Deep and Bhumisuta Panda have not been included in any of the schemes and are living a life of obscurity and neglect, they lamented.
