Khurda, Sept 11: A non-government organisation (NGO) has been accused of forcing women into sex trade in Arikama area of Bolgarh block in the district.
The incident came to light after a woman from Begunia area lodged a complaint with the local police on September 6 alleging a volunteer with the NGO tried to engage her minor daughter in illicit activities. The woman claims she also lodged a complaint with the superintendent of police (SP) in this regard.
The complainant said the NGO volunteer persuades women to work with the organisation and then forces them into illicit activities. However, no one has complained against the organisation till now due to lack of evidence and also because they allegedly use money power to cover up their illegal activities, she added.
The complainant said she has evidence against the accused volunteer who recently tried to engage her daughter in sex trade after taking her to Delhi. The woman handed over an audio clip to police containing the conversation of the accused volunteer with a woman, the copy of which is reportedly available with some media houses.
“However, the police did not include the audio clip in the investigation and is keeping mum on the issue,” the complainant alleged.
Sources said the audio clip contains conversation of the volunteer with a lady in which they were talking about their plan to take the minor girl to Delhi and engage her in illicit activities. The complainant said that the woman in the conversation was her niece-in-law. “She tried to engage my daughter into the illicit activities for money,” the woman added.
Bolgarh inspector-in-charge Laxman Dandasena said the audio clip contains conversation of a male with a female. “They were talking about the girl of Begunia area. We are investigating the matter,” he said.
SP Manoranjan Mohanty said that he could not remember if he had received such a complaint. “I would inquire into the matter and take action accordingly,” he added.
