Puri, August 10: Additional District Sessions Judge-I Wednesday granted conditional bail to 11 Srimandir servitors who were arrested for allegedly assaulting media persons during the Niladri Bije ritual of the deities July 17.
The servitors were directed to deposit a surety of Rs 30,000 and two guarantors each to avail the bail. Besides, the court directed the servitors not to influence the witnesses of the case and indulge themselves in similar offences.
The accused servitors were also directed to depose before the investigating officer once in a week and take the prior permission of SDJM before leaving the Holy City. The court made it clear that it will have the discretion to cancel the bail of any of the accused servitor if he fails to comply with the order.
Some servitors had facilitated the entry of their relatives into the chariots near the Lions’ Gate of Srimandir during the Niladri Bije ritual by flouting the temple administration’s guidelines. They had allegedly assaulted a few media persons who were reporting the incident.
