Bhubaneswar: A third-year student of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) in Bhubaneswar died after allegedly falling from a hostel terrace, police said Saturday.
The deceased, DSV Vinay, was a third-year MSc Integrated Mathematics student hailing from Nagpur in Maharashtra, they said.
Vinay “fell from the third floor” of a hostel on the campus Friday evening, they said.
Security guards rushed him to the campus health centre, and subsequently transferred him to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, where he was declared dead upon arrival, police said.
“Preliminary inquiry suggests that the student died by suic*de,” said Jatni police station’s inspector-in-charge Stalin Biswal.
“We have sent the body for post-mortem examination. We have also informed his family about the incident,” he said.
