Bhubaneswar: Preparations are on in full swing at the permanent campus of National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) at Jatni to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Modi is visiting the institute February 7 to officially dedicate its permanent campus to the nation.
Work on writing the name at the gate of the institute was completed Wednesday. Work on the podium is nearly completed. A helipad for Modi’s chopper to land is already in place and took an investment of Rs3 crore.
“There will be a walk-through exhibition inside the administrative building where different activities of the institute will put on show in the form of posters. A three-minute short film will highlight the activities of NISER. The event is very special as this is the only institute all over India that will function directly under prime minister’s office,” administrative officer of NISER Ramakant Kar said. The institute was established in 2007 and academic sessions are being conducted at Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar.
From August last, academic sessions began at the permanent campus. The permanent campus stands on 72,700 square metres and includes 11 buildings. The residential township has a built-up area of 102,000 square metres and includes nine buildings including hostels, faculty and staff quarters, among other facilities.
Governor SC Jamir, union minister of tribal affairs Jual Oram, Chief minister Naveen Patnaik, Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, chairman of Atomic Energy Commission Dr Sekhar Basu, Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh are the other dignitaries will attend the programme. The prime minister, who is scheduled to arrive at 9am on campus is to stay there for 45 minutes before leaving for Puri. PNN
