Nishant clinches title

Cuttack: Nishant Biswal emerged champion in the Senior Snooker State Ranking tournament after beating Md Raza in the final at the Cuttack Club here Sunday. This is his second state senior title.

Nishant triumphed over Raza 6-2 (46-44, 52-23, 79-9 22-62, 33-45, 52-45, 82-63, 48-45). Nishant dominated the match completely and took a 3-0 lead. Raza made a comeback and made it 2-3. But thereafter Nishant did not allow a single frame to the opponent and won 6-2.

 Orissa triumph

Orissa clinched the East Zone Cricket Tournament for Blind title for the sixth consecutive time after beating West Bengal by 77 runs in the final at Kolkata, Sunday.

Batting first Orissa scored a mammoth 185 runs in their stipulated 10 overs. Lingraj (80), Pankaj Bhue (40) and Nakul Badanayak (36) were the notable scorers for Orissa. In reply West Bengal could only manage 108 for the loss of seven wickets.

Earlier Orissa defeated Tripura and Jharkhand en route to the final. Lingraj was adjudged the man of the series for his brilliant performances throughout the tournament.

KVS sports meet

Sai Sidhartha topped charts with three points after four rounds in the U-17 boy’s chess on the second day of the ongoing 48th KVS National Sports meet at the KIIT premises in Bhubaneswar, Sunday. Biswal Subhradeep (2.5) and A Amarnath (two) are suitably placed at the second and third positions respectively.
