Nishant stuns Asutosh to enter final

Cuttack: Nishant Biswal produced a scintillating show on the green baize to stun defending champion and national level player Asutosh Padhy in the semifinals of the Senior Snooker State Championships at the Cuttack Club here Saturday.

In a thrilling encounter, Nishant pipped Asutosh 5-4 (68-52, 2-52, 68-39, 6-55, 21-73, 82-24, 72-39, 17-62, 67-26). With the score tied at four frames all, Nishant held his nerve in the crucial ninth game to win the match.

Nishant will meet Md Raza in the summit clash. Raza spanked Anuj Panda 5-1 (49-37, 57-28, 27-73, 63-56, 45-22, 69-23) in the other semifinal.

The Orissa archery team left for Vijayawada, Saturday to take part in the Xth National Mini Archery Championships, October 23-28.

Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) announced a 15-member U-23 squad Saturday for the second match against Uttar Pradesh in Col CK Nayudu Trophy to be played at Sambalpur, Oct 26-29. Devendra Singh Kunwar has been retained as the captain of the side.

The squad: Devendra Singh Kunwar, Debasis Samantray, Amrit Khatua, Biswajit Bhuwan, Nirnimesh Jena, Satyajit Sabat, Rajesh Dhuper, Abhilash Semwal, Sarbeswar Mohanty, Debabrata Pradhan, Preet Kunwar Singh Chohan, Asutosh Das, Papu Roy, Asmit Rout and Abhijit Ghana.

Team selected

Football Association of Orissa (FAO) announced a 20-members state team Saturday for the Sub-Junior Girls’ National Football Championships at Imhal. The tournament will be played October 26-November 6. Sarita Soreng has been appointed as the skipper of the side.

Orissa will play their first match against Rajasthan, October 26 followed by a game against Andhra Pradesh (October 28). The team will depart October 21 for Imphal.
