New Delhi, Jan 5: The Supreme Court Tuesday restrained students of Sardar Rajas Medical College (SRMC) to attend classes in Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati College in Berhampur and VSS Medical colleges at Burla and Hi-Tech Medical Colleges till January 8. The apex court has also directed the state government and Medical Council of India to reply by January 8 when the final hearing will be done.
Students of three government medical colleges in Orissa Monday have filed a special leave petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court against a lower court order on admission of students of Jaring-based Sardar Rajas Medical College.
“Hearing the SLP, the Supreme Court has restrained students of SRMC to attend classes in government and Hi-Tech medical colleges till January 8. The court has also directed state government and MCI to reply. The final hearing will be done January 8,” said senior advocate Ashok Kumar Mohapatra.
Students of MKCG Medical college, VSS Medical College, Burla and SCB Dental College had earlier sought the apex court’s intervention in stopping the process of admission and relocation of students of the private medical college.
The Orissa High Court, in its December 9 order, had directed the state government to complete registration, allotment and admission of the students of medical college by December 23.
Following the HC order, the state government has announced a notification for relocation and admission of 124 students of the SRMC in two government and three private medical colleges in the state.
