Niali: The killing of sheep by unknown creatures continues unabated in Niali block in the district triggering widespread resentment among the villagers. The mysterious creature/creatures killed four sheep and injured one Wednesday night.
Sources said the unidentified creature entered the shed belonging to Uday Bhoi at Dahijang village in Bilasuni panchayat here Wednesday night and killed four sheep apart from injuring another.
On being informed, forest officials rushed to the village and took stock of the situation. Veterinary officer Shasank Sekhar Nayak treated the injured sheep and conducted post-mortem of the carcasses.
“If the unknown creature is not nabbed immediately, the sheep population will completely vanish from the area and the farmers who rear sheep will incur huge financial loss,” some locals said.
The mysterious creature/creatures had killed hundreds of sheep in the area earlier in the year. However, the sheep killing was not reported in the past four months. It again made a comeback November 18.
The creatures have killed over 33 sheep in the last 12 days. Besides, more than 10 sheep have been injured seriously in the attack.
Meanwhile, the locals demanded the state government must take immediate measures to nab the unknown animal killing the sheep.
