Chhatrapur, Jan 2: More than 63,000 expecting mothers and new mothers are yet to get the cash assistance available under Mamata Yojana of the government in the district.
This came to light at a review meeting presided over by collector Premchandra Chaudhury Saturday at the collectorate here.
The collector expressed displeasure over the development and directed the authorities to stop salaries of nine child development project officers (CDPO) over the issue. They were from Khallikote, Sorada, Kukudakhandi, Ganjam, Bhanjanagar, Chhatrapur, Begunilapada, Belaguntha and Rangeilunda. They won’t get salary until the scheme is successful in the district. Besides, Chaudhury asked concerned officials to take action against 20 supervisors for failing to execute the scheme properly. Others were asked to distribute cash among the beneficiaries within a fortnight, it was learnt.
According to reports, progress of the scheme is awful in Ganjam even as review meets have been held every month to improve records. Pregnant women and mothers allegedly wait for months to get benefits.
Official records stated that 63,913 beneficiaries were yet to get benefits as of now. Of them, 7,803 didn’t receive the first installment of assistance while 14,912 were to get the second installment. Similarly, third and fourth installments were yet to be distributed among 18,701 and 22,497 beneficiaries respectively.
The collector also asked district officials to prepare a list of persons who neglected. Among others, additional district magistrate Saroj Mishra and district social welfare officer Sudhakar were present at the meeting.
