New Delhi, Dec 6: There is no vacancy of teachers in the elementary schools of Orissa, claimed records of the ministry of human resources development.
The statistics furnished by HRD minister Prakash Javadekar in the Lok Sabha recently claimed that 2,29,006 elementary school teacher posts have been sanctioned by the government and the posts have been filled up and as such there is zero per cent vacancy. The HRD ministry figures are based on the information provided by the state and ministry’s own surveys.
According to the HRD ministry, Orissa is one of the top three states in the country including Goa and Sikkim which reported zero shortage of teachers at elementary levels.
However, government secondary schools in Orissa suffer from 6.13 per cent vacancy as 29,173 such posts have been sanctioned by the government for Orissa government schools, but 1,789 posts are still vacant in the state.
Moreover, when it comes to special educators, not a single post has been sanctioned by the government and thus no special teachers have been appointed in any government school under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Sikhsha Abhiyaan while the government has sanctioned 9180 educator posts for Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Delhi and Gujarat.
The Centre through its flagship programmes of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan provides assistance to elementary and secondary schools in the states.
The assistance for additional teachers is to maintain appropriate pupil-teacher ratio. The HRD ministry regularly takes up the issue of filling up of vacant teacher posts and redeployment of teachers with the states.
