Nor’wester rains wreaks havoc; kills woman, daughter

Nuapada: The Nor’wester accompanied by heavy rains that hit several parts of the state late Friday night wreaked havoc across various districts. Two persons, a woman and her daughter, belonging to Bhandarpuri village under Sadar block in Nuapada district were killed as the natural calamity left a trail of destruction.

The woman and her daughter were killed and her husband suffered critical injuries after gusty winds uprooted a tree which fell on their house. The deceased have been identified as Ganeshi Tandi and her daughter Tulasi Tandi. Ganeshi’s husband Punitaram has been admitted to Nuapda district headquarters hospital (DHH) in critical condition.

On receiving information about the accident, fire brigade officials reached the spot, rescued Punitaram and sent him to hospital.

According to the Regional Meteorological Department, parts of Angul, Boudh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Nayagarh will experience Saturday moderate thunderstorm and lightning along with rainfall. The rains will be accompanied by gusty winds reaching up to 40 kmph.

The districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Gajapati,Ganjam, Kandhamal, Koraput, Mayurbhanj and Rayagada will also experience similar weather according to the meteorological department.
