Cuttack: Litterbugs beware! You may end up paying `500 penalty if you are caught littering or spitting on the premises of SCB Medical College and Hospital here.
The hospital authorities have enforced the guidelines to keep tabs on litterbugs and ensure cleanliness of the premises. If patients or their attendants visiting the hospital are found spitting on the hospital premises while chewing pan or gutkha, they will have to pay `500 penalty.
Interestingly, an attendant of a patient became the first person to cough up the penalty soon after implementation of the rules Wednesday. The attendant, a resident of Bidanasi area, had come to visit his relative at the gynaecology ward of the hospital and was caught spitting over there. The hospital authorities collected `500 from him.
“We have asked the security personnel to keep a close watch on the litterbugs. They will immediately impose penalty if they spot any person spitting on the premises,” SCB superintendent Shyama Kanungo said.
When asked as to what action would be initiated against those doctors and staff who are chewing pan and gutkha inside the hospital, Kanungo said, “We will sensitise them about the issue.”
