Now Odisha Police uses Gully Boy memes to spread awareness about road safety

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police is making the best use of social media to spread awareness on issues like traffic rules, women’s safety and fake news. Interestingly, the police department is using movie dialogues and memes to spread message.

Earlier, the memes of Salman Khan-starrer Race 3, used by the state police department to convey road safety message to commuters had taken the internet by storm. The messages are also quite prominent as netizens love it.

Now, since the trailer of Gully Boy-starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt was launched, netizens have made the dialogue by Alia ‘Mar Jayega Tu’, the most prominent ingredient for memes.

It is interesting to note that even the Odisha police department is using this dialogue. Through, the message, the police department has tried to show the use of helmet. In the meme, the character of Alia is shown wearing helmet and Ranveer asking her ‘why do I have to take you everywhere’ to which Alia says, ‘Warna Mar Jayega Tu’.

It may be pertinent to mention here that, official Twitter handle of Odisha Police had featured a still from the trailer of  Race 3, with the dialogue “Our Business is our business none of your busines.” The Odisha Police captioned it as “Follow the Rules, else your business will be our business”.

It further tweeted, “With interceptors deployed on the streets and highways, we ensure a thorough check on over-speeding and enforcement of traffic rules. If you don’t want us to #MindYourBusiness, drive safe, and abide by the road safety rules. #SafetyFirst.”

The state police in recent times has organised many awareness events such as rallies, seminars and meetings at frequent intervals to drive home the point of road safety. Recently, Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma had instructed all Superintendents of Police (SPs) in every district to enforce road safety rules and take stringent action against violators on the occasion of Road Safety Week. While 4,463 people had died in road mishaps across the state in 2016, the toll jumped to 4,790 in 2017.

Recently, Mumbai police had taken inspiration from movie dialogues for awareness campaign. They had taken a dialogue from the forthcoming film Dhadak to convey a road safety message to travellers. A post from the official Twitter handle of the Mumbai police, featured a still from the trailer of the film, with the dialogue “Kya naatak kar raha hai, mujhe dekh kyun nahi raha” superimposed on it.

It was captioned, “Don’t underestimate the emotional quotient of traffic signals! And their e-challan is anyways not too happy with your relationship. Traffic signal matters.”

Earlier, they had also used the famous Race 3 dialogues for the awareness about protecting data in the cyberspace and ensuring it is not shared with strangers online. They had rephrased the dialogue as ‘My data is My data none of your data’.
