Nurse found dead in city; family cries foul

Bhubaneswar: A married woman was found dead in her bedroom at VSS Nagar here Saturday night.
Swarupa Mohapatra, a nurse by profession, was found hanging with a ceiling fan in her bedroom. She was working at a private hospital in the city.
While Swarupa’s husband Pravat Kumar Mohapatra claimed she had committed suicide, the deceased’s family members alleged she was murder. They alleged Mohapatra of torturing Swarupa.
“I have seen many times my brother-in-law torturing my sister. She was beaten up in front of me many times. I’m sure she was killed,” said Sasmita Acharya, sister of the deceased.
Mohapatra refuted the allegations. “I knocked the door in the morning but did not get any response. I entered the house with the help of duplicate keys and found the door of the bedroom closed. When I peeped through the window of bedroom, I found her hanging with the ceiling fan,” said Mohapatra.
“We received complaint regarding suicide of the woman Saturday night and recovered the body. Further investigation is on. We would take further action once the postmortem report came,” said inspector-in-charge of Sahid Nagar police station Kishore Mund.
