O’Brien addresses Ravenshaw alumni meet

Cuttack: Quoting a famous line— ‘miles to go before I sleep’— from ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’ by Robert Frost, Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien urged the alumni association of Ravenshaw College to work towards development of the college.

The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader was speaking at the college’s alumni meet here Sunday.

Heaping praises on the initiative taken by Ravenshaw Alumni Association, he urged the alumni to do their part so that the college grows by leaps and bounds.

“The premier educational institute of Odisha, Ravenshaw, is far ahead of its time,” said O’Brien.

Highlighting that knowledge is power; O’Brien said that it was the postulate which was followed during the establishment of the college in 1868. “Misuse of knowledge is equal to misuse of power,” he added.

“Hence, it shows that Ravenshaw is always far ahead of its time,” O’Brien said.

The quizmaster-turned-politician was addressing the alumni of the grand old educational institute at the memorial lecture of the Ravenshaw Alumni Association.

Recalling his grandfather’s association with the college, O’Brien said that he readily agreed to attend the meet without hesitation. It may be mentioned here that his grandfather was a lecturer in Ravenshaw.

Among others, eminent writer Bibhuti Patnaik, former minister Prafulla Ghadei, Ravenshaw Chairman, Council of Deans (CCD) Sangeeta Rath and Ravenshaw Trust chairman and DGP Amiya Bhushan Tripathy were present.

Around 200 alumni attended the meet this year.
