Odia classic ‘Stree’ to be screened Saturday

Bhubaneswar: Good news for cine lovers, particularly those who have a penchat for classic ones.

Odia classic ‘Stree’ starring Goura Ghose and Parbati Ghose will be screened at Odissi Reaserch Centre auditorium here Saturday under ‘Smruti Chhaya’ series started by city based Film Journalist Forum (FJF).

The film bagged the National Award for best Odia film in 1969.

Directed by Ramchandra Thakur, Gour Prasad Ghose and Parbati Ghose under the pseudonym of Siddharth, the film had some memorable songs like ‘Mo akhira jete katha’ ‘Ganga je deshe bahe’, ‘Kali Juga Krushna Muhin’   and ‘Sanja sakale tuma chhabi khoje’ composed by Bhubanesawr Mishra, again under pseudonym of Srikumar.

“The film’s reel was in a very bad shape. It was a herculean task to make it worth screening,” informed FJF founder-secretary and film historian Surya Deo.

The event will witness release of two booklets in memory of Parbati Ghose and Goura Ghose and a felicitation ceremony for those eminent personalities associated with the film prior to the screening.

Earlier classics like ‘Sansaar’, ‘Suryamukhi’, ‘Shri Lokanath’, ‘Sadhana’ and ‘Nuabau’ were screened under ‘Smruti Chhaya’ series.
