Odia jawan martyred in Manipur ambush

Sambalpur: A jawan of Assam Rifles from Odisha was killed by armed militants during a combing operation in Manipur.

The martyr, Champeswar Mahakud (37) was a native of Dhaurakhaman village under Rairakhol block in Sambalpur district.

He was posted at Joupi in Chandel district of Manipur.

According to reports, Champeswar was shot dead during an ambush with the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) militants Friday.

Champeswar, the youngest son of Suranchi Mahakud, joined the Assam Rifles in 2001. He is survived by his wife Madhusmita and eight-year-old son Debjit.
