Odisha: 30 passengers injured as bus falls into roadside paddy field

Nayagada: At least 30 people were injured Tuesday as a bus in which they were travelling fell into a paddy field after hitting a road divider in Odisha’s Nayagada district, police said.

The accident occurred around 2 am on the Nayagada bypass when the driver lost control of the vehicle, a senior officer said.

“The Bhubaneswar-bound bus with 40 people on board fell 20 feet down from the bypass after hitting the road divider,” he said.

The bus, which was travelling from Daringbadi in Kandhamal when the accident occurred, fell on its side, and the passengers came out of the vehicle by breaking the windshield, the officer said.

All the injured passengers were taken to nearby Nayagada District Headquarters Hospital, and two of them were shifted to Bhubaneswar as their condition was serious, he said.

“The health condition of most of the injured passengers was stable,” a doctor at the health facility said.
