Bhubaneswar: Teachers of 662 Non-Government Aided Colleges in Odisha have threatened to boycott teaching if the state government does not consider their demands.
“Our demand is for equal grade, equal salary, and the resolution of anomalies, as well as pensions for those who have retired,” President of the 662 category colleges association Golak Nayak said.
Nayak further stated that “We have given the state government 15 days to respond. We would be forced to cease work and launch an agitation in front of institutions July 20.”
The 662 category teachers’ association has decided to resort to cease work as the government has not taken any steps to fulfill their demands, one of the protesting teachers alleged.
Nayak, meanwhile, went on to add that they have cooperated with the government to complete the evaluation assignment in the best interests of the students. “We are, however, denied benefits despite carrying out roughly 70 per cent of the job in the higher education sector. We are also not receiving post-retirement pensions,” he reasoned.
It is feared that the curriculums of Plus-II and Plus-III students are likely to get affected following the proposed cease work stir by the protesting teachers in the state.
The teachers have been protesting at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar for more than four months over ‘equal grade, equal salary’ and other demands.
