Bhubaneswar: Odisha BJP workers Monday staged a demonstration Monday against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s controversial remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an event in Patna, and accused him of crossing all limits of political decorum.
The party has launched a nationwide agitation after Kharge sparked a controversy with his statement, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega”, in response to an audience member who said the prime minister would not go anywhere.
The incident occurred during an event in Patna, where the Congress president addressed a programme organised to mark the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar’s first chief minister, Shrikrishna Singh.
“By making indecent comments about Modiji’s father, Kharge has overstepped all limits. Even in the past, the Congress party has made insulting remarks about Modiji and his family. Through such statements, Kharge has crossed all limits of political decorum,” BJP state president and MP Manmohan Samal said.
BJP workers burnt effigies of Congress President Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi and raised slogans against the opposition party.
On Sunday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi ridiculed Kharge over his remark and said the people will remember the absolute “moral collapse” of the “once-national party”.
In an X post, he said, “Congratulations, Mallikarjun Kharge Ji. By dragging the prime minister’s late father into an election rally, you have certified your party’s absolute intellectual bankruptcy.
“What an inspiring masterclass in opposition leadership. When you have no developmental vision to present, no governance track record to defend, and zero ground beneath your feet, simply default to personal abuse.”
He also said, “It must be exhausting to spend decades trying to counter Narendra Modi on infrastructure, economics, or public trust, only to realise your sharpest remaining political weapon belongs in the gutter.”
Majhi said that for a 138-year-old party that incessantly lectures the nation on constitutional morality and democratic decency, the mask slips with remarkable predictability the moment an election looms.
“Targeting a leader’s lineage doesn’t elevate your stature, Kharge Ji! It only exposes unvarnished desperation,” the Odisha chief minister said.
