Bhubaneswar: The ruling BJP in Odisha will launch a month-long public outreach programme on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday September 17.
As part of ‘Seva Sankalp Abhijan’, people across the state will be urged to light a ‘diya’ (lamp) in every household on the evening of September 17 to seek blessings for the PM, state Urban Development Minister KC Mohapatra, who has been appointed the convenor of the programme, said.
The month-long campaign will include local story-telling sessions, interactive awareness programmes at Anganwadi centres and a ‘Seva Jyoti Yatra’ across districts, he said.
Blood donation camps and other such activities will also be organised at the state, district and block levels, he added.

The minister said drawing, speech and other competitions will be organised in schools to highlight Modi’s public service and his vision of a developed India.
Students who perform well in the competitions will be felicitated and awarded certificates, he added.
Mohapatra said the campaign will culminate with the ‘Janasevak Mahakumbh’ October 17, in which around 1.25 lakh elected representatives from panchayat to parliamentary levels are expected to gather and sing all six stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’.
The decision about organising the programme was taken at a workshop chaired by BJP state president Manmohan Samal and attended by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the party’s state in-charge Vijay Pal Singh Tomar and other senior leaders.
The objective of the programme is to deepen the spirit of service and dedication among the public while driving welfare activities for farmers, youth, women and underprivileged sections, Mohapatra said.
