Balangir: A bus hit and dragged a 14-year-old girl leading to her death on Sonepur-Balangir road near Gaintala in Balangir district Tuesday morning, a source said.

Two family members of the victim also sustained critical injuries in the mishap.

Tension erupted in the area as a large number of locals staged a road blockade demanding strict action against the driver of the bus. Road transport was hindered for several hours due to commotion. Some of the angry locals ransacked the bus, the source informed.

According to the source, three members of a family including two daughters were travelling to Puintala block for updation of Aadhaar credentials on a two-wheeler.

A private bus named ‘Ganapati’ rear-ended the two-wheeler near Gaintala. Under impact of the collision, the daughters fell to the ground. One of them came under the wheels of the bus and was dragged for about 500 metres which subsequently led to her death on the spot, the source added.

Afterwards, locals took the injured two to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir.
